The monster sits in your garage. It was so nice when you were nineteen and petrol was cheap, but now it is the bane of your life, costing you BIG TIME.

It is like a bottomless pit. Firstly it has to be roadworthy if you are not to get fined for having it on the road and that means new tyres. Then it has begun to drink quantities of oil – not a good sign for the motor.

One big repair in a year, one small one and you are starting to look towards two to three thousand dollars. No, kicking it won’t help.

To make it worse, it loves petrol. Other people are boasting about their tiny petrol bills, whilst your monster guzzles up $50 more than theirs every single week, if not more. Those weekend country trips are a thing of the past now.

You could be in a Catch-22 situation, but there is still one thing that you can do. Pop down to your friendly car dealer. Did you know that many cars aged 2 ½ years old still have new car warranties, can be bought on great terms, and will end up costing you less in the long run than the monster, which you should sell at the closest backpacker accommodation, on an internet site or by putting an attractive price in its rear window as you drive around. Just get rid of it.

Moving on is hard to do, but add up the costs, do the deal and watch your petrol bill drop whilst you enjoy your new car.
