If you don’t know how to open your car’s hood there is no way that you can do even the simplest of jobs on your car such as check the oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, refilling windshield wiper fluid or checking accessory belts. All of these things are things that you should be able to do on your own without having to depend on or pay someone else to do for you. The encouraging part of this is that opening your car’s hood is pretty straight forward, if you know how to do it. Now one thing to keep in mind is that the hood release may be different in different types of cars. Although the hood release is located in different places from one vehicle to the next, all hood releases work in basically the same manner.

-In newer vehicles the hood release is typically inside the passenger cabin right around the steering column or on the floor next to the driver’s seat. In typically has the word “Hood” printed on it or it is a picture of the car with its hood up. If you pull it and the trunk opens, you’ve pulled the wrong release.
