Motorcycles have become increasingly popular amongst Americans, particularly the younger generations. While many people enjoy large cruising bikes, others prefer sport and dirt bikes. Over the past few years, motorcycle racing has been gaining steam and has become all the rage. Pro riders are achieving celebrity status all across the globe and becoming household names. If you’re new to motorcycle racing and looking to learn a little bit about the sport, here is a quick that will get you on your way to becoming an aficionado.

There are two major types of motorcycle racing. One of the most popular is street racing, which includes professional series such as the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix and the Superbike World Championship. The other type of racing is an off road variant that includes the Motocross World Championship and the AMA Motocross Championship.

Street racing is typically held on closed tracks that may also be used for car racing as well. In the Grand Prix series, bikes are typically designed exclusively for racing and are not street legal vehicles. These motorcycles are not available to the general public and are entirely exclusive to the racing circuit. This is comparable to the Formula 1 car racing series. The Superbike circuit hosts motorcycles that are modified versions of production models available to the public.

In both types of street racing, riders compete in time trials on flat road courses in an attempt to qualify for the main event. There are different classes based upon the engine configurations of the motorcycles. One of the major drawbacks to this type of racing is that most races cannot be conducted during any adverse weather conditions such as rain. The high speeds and tire compositions are unsafe on a slick or wet track and can be dangerous to riders.

The other popular type of racing is off road motocross. In these events, riders race modified dirt bikes on closed courses that are built to simulate all terrain conditions. It is very common for a number of different features to be placed all around the track, including ramps, hills, berms, and moguls. All of the courses are typically composed entirely of dirt. Riders compete in time trials in order to qualify for the main race. During races, riders are often speeding around the track and flying through the air in very close quarters. Studies have shown that motocross riders must be in peak physical condition due to the stresses the rough terrain can put on the body.

Motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular with the current economy today. They have the ability to navigate through traffic fast, costs less, and is very easy to store. For these reasons, the motorcycle is a choice that many decide to go with. When you decide to get a motorcycle, the most important thing is the helmet. There are numerous reasons why the helmet is important.

The first obvious reason for owning a helmet is for head protection. Getting a motorcycle helmet is significant due to the fact that it protects your head from injuries you may get into. The nature of the motorcycle itself already makes it very dangerous if you get into an accident, so additional protection is needed. The motorcycle is vulnerable because it is moving so fast while having little mass compared to the cars. For this reason, the motorcycle is almost a guaranteed death if a car hits it; the motorcycle will go out of control as well as the person as the car has a lot of mass. By having a motorcycle helmet, you reduce the chance of death or serious injuries that may occur during any type of accident.

Another reason for having a helmet is the wind. When you are riding the motorcycle, the wind coming towards you will be strong. The motorcycle helmet will usually have a shield that covers your face so the wind does not bother you while you are riding the motorcycle. This is important as having another factor such as the wind bother you will be dangerous when riding the motorcycle.

In addition to these 2 features of the motorcycle helmet, the helmet can be stylish. Many people like to shop and buy a helmet that matches their style. They can show this off anywhere they ride to. Some people like to match the motorcycle while others choose to just make it unique to their personality.

The price of these helmets varies greatly, so make sure you look around before purchasing a helmet. The average motorcycle helmet will range anywhere between 30-600 dollars, so make sure you compare the prices. Some places will be a lot cheaper than another, but you also have to watch for the quality. The best thing to do is compare all the helmets you like with great quality and then pick the lowest one. This way, you will get a great helmet for a cheap price.

Congratulations! As a proud new motorcycle owner, you’re undoubtedly itching to hit the road on your sleek set of wheels. Riding your bike down scenic byways or city freeways is an exhilarating experience–but as all riders know, motorcycling comes with plenty of risks. Motorcycles can be hard for automobile drivers to see, and in the event of an accident, a motorcyclist doesn’t have the benefit of thousands of pounds of steel protecting him (or her) from the impact. The best way to reduce the risk of serious injury or death is by wearing a helmet.

After buying a new bike, many riders are chagrined to find that a standard helmet purchased from a dealer can set them back an additional several hundred dollars. Many higher-end models can easily approach $800 to $900 or more. Fortunately, a helmet’s safety and quality doesn’t necessarily go up with the price; cheap helmets can also provide ample protection. Basic helmets can be found for around $100, and it’s very possible to get full protection from one of these less expensive models.

The most important thing to look for when shopping for a helmet is certification from either the DOT (Department of Transportation) or the Snell Foundation. These organizations certify helmets based on their ability to absorb the force of an impact and other stringent safety criteria. Their standards are similar and an approval from either one will ensure that you’re getting a quality helmet.

Whether you’re looking at cheap helmets or the pricier versions, be sure that the one you select fits you properly. Even the best helmet won’t be able to protect you if it falls off your head during a collision. A simple test is to fasten it properly and then push up firmly on the back. If you’re able to get it off, it’s not a good fit.

While it may be tempting to pick up a second-hand helmet from a yard sale or a thrift store, don’t–even if it’s certified. The typical lifespan of a helmet is about five years, as the protective foam material inside degrades fairly rapidly. If you’re using one older than that, it may not be as effective. Similarly, a helmet that has been involved in an accident, even a minor one, has been permanently altered even if there is no visible damage. If you’re considering buying a used helmet, you’ll want to be certain you know everything about its history.

Wherever you purchase your helmet, making sure it’s a certified, properly-fitting, and recent model will give you the best chance at a safe and enjoyable motorcycling future.

A motorcycle is a great mode of transport. It can get you from A to B quickly and using the least amount of gas. Motorcycles can be particularly good for anyone who has to commute to work. Or you can just use it as a bit of fun. Of course the cheapest way to buy a motorcycle is to buy used. This gives you the best value for money and doesn’t mean that you have to spend wasted months breaking it in!

If you are thinking of buying a used motorcycle then you should do your research. Decide which is best for you and make sure that you know what you’re looking for. When you have found the right bike be sure to ask lots of questions about the history of the bike and its previous owners. A simple motorcycle bill of sale form should be able to tell you all of this as a bill of sale is usually passed from seller to buyer each time a motorcycle is sold. If your seller is unhappy about giving you a simple motorcycle bill of sale then be wary of where the bike has come from. These bills were designed to protect the buyers and sellers from any wrongdoing so if your seller isn’t happy then that should send off warning signals!

Buying a used motorcycle should be an easy and simple project and will only take a matter of days if you find the right bike so be sure to do a few things before you hand the cash over. Compare similar bikes that are selling too to make sure that you’re getting a fair price, take it for a test ride so you know you will feel comfortable on it and most importantly get a simple motorcycle bill of sale! They can be downloaded and printed off the internet so there isn’t even an excuse not to have one!

Discount Motorcycle Helmets are highly sought after in today’s motor mobile market. With the fiscal crisis still growing, many motorcycle and moped enthusiasts are seeking helmets at discounted rates, but with the same level of protection and security. The auto industry has always stressed important transit measures, therefore, motorcycle helmets are consistently being updated to assure safety for all riders and drivers. There are several discount motorcycle helmets available online, and prices can range from $50 to as low as $20. They offer the same comfort, durability, and design options as premium helmets, but at discounted rates and cost effective prices.

From racing and touring to motorcross and Harley Davidson, there is a wide online selection of discount motorcycle helmets to choose from. You can get full face, open face, flip, half, or DOT touring helmets in a broad range of sizes and designs. If time is of the essence, simply browse for the best deals on the internet and you’ll surely find what you’re looking for. Some of the top helmet brands currently on the market are Answer, Arai, HJC, and Nolan. They offer a vast array of helmets to meet your needs, as well as accessories for any brand of motorcycle. They also specialize in head gear for ATV’s, Snowmobiles, novelty bikes, children’s bikes, and motorcycle helmet shields.

If you are thinking about a road trip on your motorcycle then you may want to consider a motorcycle cargo trailer.

If you are thinking about a road trip on your motorcycle then you may want to consider a motorcycle cargo trailer. They are a detachable tow behind trailer which allow you to carry a lot more than you would in a pack and saddle bags. The versatility now is quite large with trailers being made for pets and also camping trailers which have a built in tent. Kits can be added for coolers, racks so you can take larger items like a surfboard and luggage racks.

When shopping for any pull behind motorcycle trailer, be it a standard cargo or tent trailer, you must know your limits in size and weight as safety must be your first priority. The trailers width should be maximum the width of your handlebars and no higher than the top of your tour pack. When it comes to weight there are a few factors. Obviously the larger the bike, the more weight it can tow but most standard cargo trailers are built for any touring motorcycle bike size. You need to know the maximum weight your bike can take, minus your weight and any carrying weight and then you have the combined weight of your trailer, cargo and trailer parts like a hitch.

Most cargo trailers are made out of either aluminum or fiberglass because of their lightweight nature. Aluminum motorcycle trailers are pretty standard in shape across all brands, they’re quite boxy. Fiberglass allows for much more creativity whilst still being durable though you will also a combination of the two with aluminum bodies and fiberglass tops. Whilst there are already a huge range of option available like the very popular vintage look, aerodynamic space aged shapes and styles to match popular motorcycle models, you can also get fully customizable trailers but with a price tag to match.

When it comes to the mechanics of a trailer the two important areas are suspension and wheel size. Many riders don’t even notice having a trailer and that’s the way it should be. The trailer shouldn’t impact your steering or the smoothness of your ride. If it is bouncing around due to poor suspension then it could effect your control of the bike which is a major safety hazard. Wheel size and the quality of your bearings and major working parts are important. Larger wheels means less revolutions and less likely you will overheat the bearings.

If you are planning a trip but want to take the car and the bike you still have many options. The variety of motorbike trailers to transport your bike is huge. You can get open single and multiple bike trailers from cross rail to flatbeds from the heavier steel to the lighter aluminum. Some stand up or fold up for storage, and if storage is a problem then you may consider trailer rental for that once a year trip. A more expensive type is the enclosed motorcycle trailer which comes in every shape, size and configuration including a camping trailer with a garage for the bike.

Whatever you choose you need not be without your bike or your creature comforts when you hit the road.

One of the ultimate freedoms of motorcycle riding is hitting the open road for a long trip filled with excitement and adventure. While many riders like to be spontaneous and play things by ear, it is very important to plan your trip in advance and determine where you’d like to go. Motorcycle road trips aren’t nearly as flexible as a car trip due to the limitations imposed by your bike. There just isn’t much space available for storage and you’re going to be consistently exposed to the elements. Before you head out on your motorcycle trek, take the following information into consideration.

You should always thoroughly inspect your bike prior to leaving for your trip. Examine the tires to ensure there are no spots of extreme wear that may cause a problem out on the road. It’s also important to check your electrical systems, headlights, and controls are in working order. Check the levels of vital fluids such as oil, brake fluid, and coolant. If you are low, be sure to fill everything back up to the manufacturer’s suggested amount.

Due to the inherent limits on cargo and supplies that you can bring with you, it is vitally important to establish exactly what you need to bring. Some bikes are equipped with hard cases or saddlebags. If your bike doesn’t have either of these features, you’re going to have to figure out some way to store your belongings. The bare necessities are all that’s required because there is only so much can fit inside these rather small containers. You’ll want to bring a few different types of clothing depending on the weather conditions you expect to experience. Thin clothing is recommended for extremely warm weather, but you should also be prepared incase things take a turn for the worse. Always wear a proper safety helmet that has a face guard in order to protect yourself in case of an accident.

Be sure to pack some snacks and water as well. Fruit bars, granola, or snack mixes will provide a much needed energy boost when you’re too far from modern conveniences. It’s a good idea to bring plenty of water to avoid dehydration and keep your riding skills at an optimal level. While you might not need any of these supplies, it’s always best to be prepared incase something unexpected comes up.

A well-planned trip is the best way to guarantee that you have a safe and enjoyable riding experience.

Much beyond many peoples beliefs, the humble quad bike started to become a household name back in the late 70’s early 80’s, yet not for the reason you may be thinking. Should you decide to look up the word “Quad” in the dictionary you will find the following definition;

* Adjective: designation or compromising of four persons or things.

Now, never could a stranger expression be used for something that was in fact, based on a Three Wheeled Machine and not as it is today, a Four Wheeled Machine.

The early days of Quad Bikes was purely an agricultural affair, where by farmers would use them to do the easy tasks like rounding up sheep or cattle or where they just needed to get from point A to B slightly quicker than using a tractor. Let’s face it, we have all been stuck behind a tractor or two in our time and they are never the fastest moving vehicle on the road.

Now, if you looked up the word “Quad Bike” in the dictionary it would say;

* Definition: An off-road four-wheeled motorcycle; also called quad

And not even a mention of the three wheeled version of the Quad Bike ancestry. The strange thing is that when you look at the wiki answer to the word Quad Bike it is one of the first things they mention about it being derived from a three wheeled machine.

So from humble beginnings as a three wheeled bike, the Quad Bike evolved with its rightful four wheels. The market started to grow in the late 80’s where 3 manufacturer’s started to produce machines that were specific to the nature of an off-road vehicle and called them ATV or All Terrain Vehicles. Progressing into the 90’s was when the market interest started to increase, forcing the hand of manufacturer’s to make them look a little more up to date as well as for a more general purpose.

This is when the market started showing signs of divide, the two classifications went their own ways and the Quad Bike was a formally known machine in it’s own right.

By the time we were in the late 90’s the market was showing sure signs of growth potential. More machines were being imported into the UK from China, Japan and other Asian countries where manufacturer’s could see business starting to increase within the field.

The turn of the millennium became the breaking point for the industry, vehicles were now being used on the road as well as off road, and more and more garage’s started to stock known brand machines so that they could take a little section of the market share.

From 2007-2008, the industry became uncountable in respect of how many manufacturer’s were popping up out of the woodwork. In the early part of 2008, the manufacturer count was nearing 35+ and there was no sign of it letting up.

Due to it’s ever increasing popularity you know have more manufacturers of Quad Bikes than you do Motorcycles. The Chinese are getting more intelligence saying that this market is still growing, and more and more machines are hitting the retail world by storm.

The only one issue you have with the Chinese Manufacturers over the Japanese counterparts are that parts and accessories are harder to come by because they do not have dealer support. Where as, with your Japanese manufacturer they have been in the market for so long now that they have engaged support and parts ordering through most Motorcycle Dealerships.

There are many considerations to make when preparing your youngster for motorcycle riding on the track or off. They include rider safety equipment, bike size and rider training. This article will discuss rider safety equipment.

The first consideration when preparing your youngster for motorcycle riding is the purchase of safety equipment. Whether they will be practicing, trail riding or racing, safety equipment is incredibly important. Many events can take place during all types of riding, so safety equipment should always be worn.

Keep in mind that riders do fall down and they do collide during racing, and they do it while traveling rather fast. Wearing proper safety equipment can minimize the effects of contact with other riders, obstacles and the ground.

Rider Safety Equipment

Starting at the top is head protection, and this is by far the most important to a motorcycle rider, whether they are on a dirt track or an asphalt roadway. All motorcyclists need to protect their head, and helmets are able to do this effectively.

Next comes eye protection; it is hard to navigate a motorcycle safely if you cannot see where you are going. Obstacles that can interfere while riding are sun, dirt, flying debris, bugs and low lying branches. This makes eye protection important to the safety of the rider. Don’t substitute other types of glasses, like sunglasses, for eye protection gear designed for motorcycle riders.

Now most street motorcycle riders don’t wear neck protection, but it can be very important for track racers. With the hills and jumps engaged during racing, there is a chance of rider whiplash and so neck protection should be worn. Some helmet designs will provide some neck protection, but a neck collar that provides specific neck protection is best under all conditions.

The back and chest are very vulnerable areas and prone to injury, especially if the rider is not equipped with proper upper body protection. Whether it is the handle bars of their own motorcycle or a tree branch on the trail, chest and back protection can minimize accidental injuries to those areas.

Two areas that always seem to get banged up on the rider are the knees and elbows. On the trail it can be from bushes and trees, extending into trails and onto the track or it can be the result of contact with other riders. High impact plastics used in today’s protectors will help preserve the rider’s knees and elbows from injury.

Outfitting your rider with hand protection can help them to grip the controls of their bike better and reduce injury to the fingers and knuckles also.

A good pair of riding boots will be important for comfortable operation of the motorcycle, but will also help to protect the shins, ankles, and feet from injury. Make sure that the boots always fit properly and are in good condition as well.

As much of a temptation that it might be to go the cheap route when it comes to safety equipment, it is advised not skimp on safety equipment. This doesn’t mean you can’t get a good deal on some used gear, just make sure it is in excellent shape and fits your rider properly. Damaged gear or equipment that doesn’t fit properly should be avoided.

There is nothing like the feelings of riding the back road trails on a ATV, it is a unlimited source of fun and excitement. Having a great day on the trails with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair is like nothing else. The sport of recreational ATV riding can bring families together, provide an environment to meet new friends and in general bring an enjoyment to our lives. With all of the good times comes a responsibility, you have to keep in mind that you are operating a motorized vehicle and safety must come into play.

Before hopping on to your brand new ATV it is highly suggested that you consider attending an ATV safety training course. Unlike a motorcycle or car, a license is not needed to operate an ATV. Most people will learn to ride an ATV from friends or family members, while overall this is not a bad idea, there could be some important points especially in the safety area that could be left out.

There are many places that offer ATV safety courses, and it is as simple as inquiring at your local ATV dealer to find them. Something that you want to keep in mind though is that not all safety courses have certified teachers. In 1988 the ATV Safety Institute (ASI) was created to educate ATV riders in the safe operation of their all terrain vehicles. This was put into place in hopes of reducing the amount of accidents that happened on a yearly basis. Since the inception of the ASI we have seen a sharp decrease in the number of recreational ATV accidents, so it seems like ASI was a successful operation.

Many dealers including Honda, Yamaha and Artic Cat will offer you the opportunity to attend a ATV safety course for Free. Even if you don’t personally own an ATV but find yourself riding friends or family members you can still take the course for a small fee. Many courses provide the ATV to learn on, but you might inquire before signing up whether they provide the ATV or you need to bring your own.

The ASI course will provide you all of the basics of riding and operating an ATV, and it only takes about half a day to complete the course. Instructors will give you step by step instructions on how to handle different terrains and different environments. You will learn the best safety equipment and how to start and stop your ATV properly. Later on in the course you will learn how to traverse hills and obstacles on a closed course.

ASI safety courses are offered for practically all ages starting as young as 6 years old on up. Show your family that you care by taking the safety course and ensuring all family members involved in riding ATV’s do so also.
