“It’s the happiest time of year [--]” for most folks out there, but, with this time of year, there also comes new dangers, which we neither have to see nor deal with to this degree any other time than now. Cars are dependent a lot upon the air resistance and friction of the road, in order for those two factors to abate their speed in the heat of an impending crash against another car or a pedestrian crossing the roads. Winter, on the other hand, produces virtually frictionless ice, in that they serve as a long lasting wet road, which would typically feature a lack of friction already, and the mere existence of the air resistance would not be able to provide the necessary decrease of speed in time to prevent an aforementioned precipice of disaster. My conjecture is therefore that people should drive especially safely this season, so that they do not attain the heretofore unfortunate circumstances, but rather so that they may have a higher chance of having truly happy holidays that won’t be grim in the event that a love one may have lost a lot of their property to damages, or even its life this season. While it is an incorrect generalization to state that that applies for everyone, for there are certainly areas that aren’t the least bit affected by the snow at all, it absolutely applies to the multitude of areas that are under the wrath of the season, and the advice hereafter can save many lives, as long as it is followed by an ambition to learn with an open mind. Car accidents in the winter cold can be properly prevented through the means of meticulous observation of the channel of your weather station, the research of your wheels, and the evaluation of your priorities.

Your weather station can not only foretell the usage of your air conditioner in the enclosure of your house; it can also save lives as well. In the case that it features icy, slippery roads and blizzard to match, it would be imperative for you not to embark upon the roads, not only because there is a higher probability that you would crash because of the ice, but also because your view of the roads would be extensively obstructed, which, even so, might pose a greater danger to your health, as well as the health of your passengers. You may also injure other people that aren’t your acquaintances, but there is also the equivalent possibility that you could crash into a guarding rail or a tree, which would be just as catastrophic for the driver of such car, and the damages, if you allow that no one within the car should pass away from such an incident, and no third party outside of the car becomes injured, would still be a considerable wreck on you through your car insurance. All of these scenarios accumulate to an unpleasant view that any sane man would want to avoid at all costs, but, if you are a daring person, who isn’t afraid of such challenges in order to achieve your destination, then the ownership of tires that are proper for the snow should be considerably preventive of a car accident in your entry therein to the roads.

The traction of a winter wheel is a necessity, if you opt to drive in such weather, because it regains much of the traction, which would have been lost through the powers of the ice, because such wheels would feature a considerably higher amount of depth in its tires, so that it should penetrate much of the ice. The downfall of such usage is that it is virtually nontransferable to the other seasons of the year in spring, summer, and fall, which equally have a less powerful tire that would be proper in such weather. It may thus be a worthless purchase, for it would only be applicable during the winter season, but, if you do indeed travel a lot during such times, then it would truly be a purchase that you should make, for it allows for safer driving and a largely lowered chance that you would lose control of your vehicle. That brings me to the point of merely evaluating your priorities. While such a tire would allow for more control of your vehicle, it still wouldn’t be a solution for the obstruction of view that would naturally come in winter weather, and that would undoubtedly, nevertheless, keep the probability of a car accident at a rather high potential. It is therefore prudent for you to decrease much of that possibility by driving less, or only when you truly have to do so. You may be pressed to pick up relatives at the airport for your holiday celebration, but is it truly has necessary to drive out into the blizzard towards your frequented drug store to get a new pack of cigarettes? The risks in the latter case are higher than the ends, but some people do not have a choice, in that they must drive off to a faraway location of work each day without the commodity of a train or any other public transportation to be sufficient in either existence or speed.

In all the aforesaid instances, wherein you must be upon the roads, it is a finality, in all cases, to drive as safely as you must, though, unless you must, it would be well for you to stay off the roads as much as you can as well.

Driving is stressful enough as it is without having to add more pressure to your situation. There are so many things to remember such as when to use your turn signal, when to look over your shoulder, the proper reaction at a four-way stop, etc. These are all things that most of us do without even thinking twice about it, but which can be extremely stressful for someone who is just starting out as a new driver.

Think back to when you had your first driving lesson with either your mother or father. What were some of the key points that they told you back then that you still remember? What about your first driving lesson that you took at your high school when you were jammed into the back seat of the driving instructor’s car with three of your friends? What were the key points that you absolutely had to follow, otherwise you would risk having the instructor embarrass you by slamming on the breaks?

Driving should not have to be something that stresses you out. There are many people who hate driving and avoid it at all costs simply for the fact that driving makes them feel stressed out. However, this doesn’t always have to be the case. In fact, there are several things (good habits if you will) that we can begin to practice form a young age so that when the time comes for us to be behind the wheel of a moving vehicle, it will already be ingrained into our subconscious. The first thing is to remember to always use your turn signals. Not using your turn signals is the number one thing that you will hear me gripe about all of the time because that’s just it: it happens ALL OF THE TIME where I live in North Carolina. However, it isn’t only North Carolinian’s who don’t seem to get it when it comes to using your indicators in your car. Rather, the situation has become so bad that various other states within the United States have begun to seek out other measures of “gently” reminding drivers to always signal before changing lanes.

In New York, when you first get onto the major highway leading to the Verrazano Bridge, there are electronic signs that actually flash a message across them, reminding drivers of two things: 1) always buckle you seat belt and leave a safe distance in between the road ahead and 2) Always use your turn signals before you change lanes or merge into traffic. People belittle this gesture, but it has actually saved more lives than anyone can even begin to imagine. For example, the other day, I was driving on the road when it was raining and in front of me, I noticed that there was a driver in the far left lane who looked like he was about to merge into the center lane (where I was), and then there was another driver in the far right lane who also looked as if they were going to merge into the center lane. Before anything could happen, I immediately slowed down a a preventive measure.

Sure enough, both vehicles tried to merge into the center lane (without signaling at all), and for a millisecond, the one vehicle put on their indicator as a sort of afterthought. If it hadn’t been for one of the drivers looking over at the last minute an quickly maneuvering out of the lane, there would have been a serious accident!

Night vision glasses are giving more and more people relief from the many hazards of driving at night. Most people are bothered by glaring headlights from oncoming traffic and the bright headlights from the cars behind them, but night vision glasses can really help and eye professionals are recommending them to many of their patients. As long as the night vision glasses have an anti-reflective coating, they will help to reduce this glare and help you to see better when on dark roads with little or no light. Be certain not to pick up a pair of night vision glasses that do not have this special coating as they will not help you and can hinder your driving. This type of glasses usually have a yellow or amber lens so if you see a pair that you like with these colors of tinted lenses be certain to make sure they also have the coating. These glasses are priced at approximately forty dollars but can go as high as four hundred dollars, especially if you are looking for a top of the line pair that professionals like race car drivers wear when they race at night.

Night glasses can actually refer to any number of glasses like goggles and binoculars that use a special means to increase your vision at night. Some of these glasses use thermal vision, some use an image intensifier and some use active infrared. Active and passive systems are the two main categories of night vision glasses. An active system uses a device to bathe an area in non-visible light and they are normally used for security purposes. A passive system collects the light given off by the stars and then intensifies it so that the viewer can make out details. This type of night vision is usually denoted by a generation. Gen 1 is the oldest and Gen 4 is the newest. Gen 1 were the night vision glasses used during the Vietnam War and Gen 2 was developed to get substantially more light amplification. Gen 3 glasses get better resolution and Gen 4 glasses were developed so that they could quickly change as light conditions changed. In this way, visibility can still be retained even in the midst of bright explosions. These types of night vision glasses are priced anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.

For a long time, night glasses or goggles were used only by the military to make it easier to see the enemy at night. But now they are being used by private detectives, wildlife enthusiasts and more importantly, police officers to help them at night when they are looking for a missing person or someone who has broken the law. Firemen are also finding a good use for night vision glasses or goggles as they can help them find trapped victims that are lost or unconscious in a dark building.

So whether you are looking for night glasses to keep you safer when driving at night, or for vision glasses like goggles to be used for other purposes, you will be able to find many online sites with a variety of both. Be certain to remember the most important fact when you are purchasing night vision glasses for driving and that is to only buy the kind that include an anti-reflective coating.

According to a recent study, thirty two percent of drivers say they have trouble seeing all or most of the time at night; twenty six percent claim they have trouble seeing signs when driving at night; twenty percent have difficulty seeing pedestrians, animals and turns in the road and twenty two percent report they cannot judge distance when driving at night. Statistics like these are cause for concern. Many people are turning to night vision glasses in the hope of overcoming these difficulties.

Experts agree that driving in the dark is one of the most dangerous situations a driver faces. There are many roads out there with low or no lighting and then you also have to contend with the blinding lights coming at you from other drivers. The fatality rate at night, which is considered from 6 pm to 6 am, is three percent higher than the day time rate. Many people complain of eye strain, dry and tired eyes, inability to focus and blurred vision – all that can be helped with night vision glasses. Many people feel that the most distracting issue when driving at night are the lights of oncoming traffic and the headlights from cars behind them. And if you have any vision problems to begin with like cataracts or near-sightedness, these problems can be intensified. Many eye professionals are recommending night vision glasses be used to help keep you safer.

Some other things these professionals are recommending for nighttime driving are:

Cleaning your windshield inside and outside – this will prevent smears that block your vision and make it more difficult to see.

Make sure your headlights are clean – by keeping them clean you are ensuring that you will have better visibility when driving on roads with little or no lighting.

Do not wear sunglasses after dusk – these only make it more difficult to see at night.

Dim your instrument panel – this will reduce brightness when you glance at them.

Adjust your rear view mirror to “night” setting – this will dim the glare of headlights from the cars behind you.
Drive slower than the speed limit – this is especially true on winding roads.

Wear a pair of night vision glasses that have anti-reflective coating on the lenses.

This last bit of advice is very important as there are a lot of night vision glasses being sold with a yellow or amber tint that experts agree do not help you when driving at night and can actually hinder you by making dark areas appear even darker. The glasses that are recommended are equipped with an anti-reflective coating (on both sides of the lens) as they transmit more light. By transmitting more light this will help to improve your vision at night. The special coating will reduce the reflection from headlights, which as mentioned before, is the greatest problem for people when driving at night. You can find these night vision glasses online. Pricing begins at about fifty dollars. It will be worth any cost to ensure that you are more protected against the many dangers of nighttime driving.

As if you didn’t already know, there are plenty of ways that you can ruin your car. Most people fail to reach a complete stop before shifting, never ever use their parking brake, and tend to keep driving on E. Add more life and value to your vehicle and try not to make these common everyday mistakes that will without a doubt end up completely ruining your car.

1. If you are parked on a slight incline, you are putting all of the stress on your car and its transmission if fail to make use of your parking brake. You must know that the only thing keeping the car steady is a one tiny pin called a parking pawl. When you utilize the parking brake, you lock up the non-drive wheels and the driving wheels. Thus, the stress is taken off of your vehicle’s transmission. Multiple years are taken off the life of your transmission and your car if you never use your parking break. So if you don’t know where it is find it, know it, and use it whenever necessary.

2. Surprisingly not everyone does this, but you should change your oil every 3,000 miles, 5,000 miles if you want to stretch it to its limit. Frequent changes to your oil will actually double your car’s life and it’s no lie that it automatically improves your performance. If you wait until check engine oil light comes on, that means your oil has turned to black molasses, which is completely useless, and in most cases very harmful to your engine.

3. Avoid riding the brakes especially when driving down a hill. This is a frequent mistake. When going down hills, you want to alternate between braking and letting off the brake. This will prevent your brake pads from wearing down at a fast rate. If you do happen to ride down hills on your brakes, stop immediately. In fact, your brake pads are probably completely worn out by now.

4. One of the most common errors in drivers is that they begin to shift before completing a stop. When you are pulling out of a parking space, and you shift your gears into drive while you are coasting backwards, months maybe even years of wear is all of a sudden added to your transmission. This happens in the matter of seconds. You can severely damage your drive shafts by doing this. And it will inevitably lead to a sloppy suspension and perhaps a completely burnt out transmission.

5. Tons of drivers start their vehicle the wrong way. If you have your radio on, your AC or heat blasted, or even your wipers going at the time you start your engine, it has to work ten times harder to start. To add to that, “revving” up your engine under extremely cold conditions does not heat your car up any faster. What it actually does is cause extreme temperature fluctuations, ones that can be really harmful to your engine. The best thing to do is to let your car sit idle for about 30 seconds or a minute before taking off.

6. A lot of drivers also let their tanks go to almost empty before filling up. Many people keep driving even after their gas tank light has come on. This is a definite no no. Running your gas down to empty can and will cause major problems. It can severely cut the life of your fuel pump because the fuel’s main function is to cool the pump. It is highly recommended to keep your gas tank as full as possible, especially in the coldest months.

It is very important to understand what you are doing wrong when it comes to driving and maintaining your car in the most responsible way. It’s an awful idea to ignore car sounds, let the interior become messy, pressure wash your engine, or accidentally leave your car lights on and killing your battery time and time again. Remember to change your oil frequently, replace all car parts as needed, and keep your gas tank filled or at least at halfway. If you begin to avoid these common mistakes your car will live much longer than it would have before. So drive practical.

The two contrasting impressions that can come to mind when the subject of comparing ‘Independent’ vs. ‘National’ driving schools are that the first will provide the more ‘personal’ service, caring for your specific needs and requirements, while the second will provide a more professional driving lessons service, potentially with newer vehicles.

The reality of the matter is that national driving schools will simply be using self employed, local driving instructors who are paying the driving school a franchise fee.

These franchises will generally provide driving instructors with a vehicle, some advertising, sometimes pupils, etc. Assuming that the instructor that you learn to drive with is fully qualified instructor (not all national schools exclusively use full qualified trainers) there should be little difference in the abilities of the individual trainer.

The difference is more likely to come down to the fact that the instructors who are working for the larger driving schools have higher ‘outgoings’. This could well result in higher charges for the pupils or lower pay per hour for the instructor. This ‘lower pay’ could then result in a less motivated instructor, or in a slightly ‘overworked’ and tired trainer, who is trying to make up for the lower income with more work.

In my experience, there is no ‘better choice’ if you are going to select a driving instructor at random – they both have their pros and cons. The important aspect is finding out information on the specific instructor (with National driving schools you are more likely to be told that a driving instructor will collect you – as opposed to finding out which driving instructor, including qualifications, experience etc. – thus removing the possibility of making your own choice).

Driving in winter requires different care and practices than during the more pleasant parts of the year. Weather conditions can include low lying winter sun, ice, snow or torrential rain. Also in winter time apart from fleet drivers other people often have the need to travel longer journeys over the holiday period. Apart from following these tips check that your motor fleet insurance or car insurance and rescue service memberships are up to date in case of any emergency.

RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) has launched a factsheet for safe winter driving which is on their website, and it discusses subjects such as car conditions, accessories and weather issues which drivers are advised to plan especially for longer journeys.

Kevin Clinton, who is the RoSPA head of road safety, said that safer winter driving is about being well prepared. Firstly you need to ensure that you and your vehicle are in a good state to drive and that you have planned your journey in detail.

Some of RoSPA’s advice includes:

* Check that the lights are working and clean
* Ensure the windscreen and windows are clean and that the water bottle is filled up with screen wash in the correct concentration
* Carry a functioning torch in the car, in addition to de-icing equipment and a first aid kit
* Be aware of the possibility of being stuck in snow. Pack a blanket, pair of boots, high-visibility jacket, and a mobile phone for emergency use

If conditions are especially bad you should avoid travelling altogether. If you really must travel in ice or snow then do everything extra gently. Give extra distance to other drivers in all directions.

Remember that the winter sun is low and combined with a dry windscreen can be extremely hazardous. Peter Rodger who is the Chief Examiner for the Institute of Advanced Motorists pointed out that we have this low sun in the mornings and later afternoon. UK winter weather can mean wet and dirty roads which mean even more dirt on the other side of windscreens.

On top of this you could have your heater on demist, and the combination of blowing traffic fumes, suspended smoke and oil on the inside of the screen can quickly build up to a film of grime, a major cause of glare. He advises a minimum of a weekly clean but weather dependent more may be better.

Use glass cleaner or water to clean it thoroughly inside and out and dry with paper or leather. Apart from this change the windscreen wipers once a year. Make sure your washer bottles are topped up with a good quality screen wash. Always keep a good pair of sun glasses with you in the car it is a great help.

It is a good idea to do a checklist of the various items mentioned in this article and store them in your car so that you will not be caught out. Sometimes we have to take a trip that was not planned and for safety it is best to know you are fully equipped, in the same way as you need to be 100% sure that you have up to date motor fleet insurance or car insurance.

Jackie de Burca has put together these top tips to help you drive safely during winter time. They are based on advice from the RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) and will be helpful to fleet drivers and private motorists alike. Apart from the safety tips remember to check that your motor fleet insurance is up to date. http://www.cover4fleetinsurance.co.uk/motor-fleet-insurance.html

The act of driving has become so common that many people take it for granted. With each passing year, technological changes make it so that drivers face the pull of additional distractions that can interfere with their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Though drivers may feel as if they are skilled enough to handle the introduction of such complications, research has proven that distracted drivers are significantly more likely to be involved in automobile accidents than their counterparts who remain focused on the task at hand. If you have been injured in a collision caused by a distracted driver then you may be able to pursue a legal action against the responsible party.

Although one would customarily expect the medical bills and automobile repair costs associated with a car wreck to be covered by the benefits issued under the relevant insurance policies, this is not always the case. The recent and dramatic increases in the cost of healthcare in this country have made it so that it is virtually probable that the healthcare expenses will be in excess of the policy benefit limits. Consulting with a skilled and experienced attorney about your case can help you to gain an appreciation for the potential merits of filing a civil lawsuit.

Commonly Encountered Distractions

Driving habits are as numerous and varied as the people who engage in them, so it would be impossible to provide a full accounting of the possible range of distractions that may have been a factor in causing your accident. Despite this, however, there are clearly some aspects of the contemporary driving lifestyle that are more likely than others to appear in the investigation of the underlying causes and circumstances of an automobile collision.

Keeping these things in mind and avoiding them can help you to become a better driver and remaining alert for indications that others are making these critical mistakes can help you to quickly maneuver away from distracted drivers in the future. Some of the more commonly encountered driving distractions are:

* Talking on a cell phone
* Text messaging while driving
* Eating while driving
* Drinking while driving
* Adjusting the climate control system
* Adjusting the radio, CD, or other music device
* Talking with passengers

For long trips and highway driving, nothing beats the ease and convenience of cruise control. But don’t despair if your vehicle didn’t have this feature when you purchased it. Your local car electronics installer should be able to install an aftermarket cruise control. Surprisingly affordable and available for most domestic and foreign automobiles, aftermarket systems are a simple solution for making your driving experience more comfortable.

Whether you frequently drive for hours on long trips or are looking for an easy answer for maintaining a steady highway speed, cruise control kits can make driving simpler and more comfortable. No more leg cramps, no more speeding up and slowing down all the time: aftermarket cruise control makes your time behind the wheel a breeze. No matter what type of vehicle you drive, your local car audio shop should be able to help! With a variety of kits on the market today, they’ll be able to match your needs and vehicle with the perfect system.

Remember, although it may seem simple enough, installing an aftermarket cruise control is a job for the professionals. Your cruise system affects your driving safety, so you’ll want to know it’s done right! Moreover, the installation itself involves disengaging and removing the airbag-which is more challenging than it sounds. Risks include accidental airbag deployment, damage to the airbag itself, and other issues that could prevent it from functioning correctly in a collision. For these reasons, airbag-related installs should only be performed by experts. Unless you know exactly what you’re doing, your best bet is to call your car electronics professionals. They’ll mitigate any risk of airbag problems as well as correctly install your system for safe, proper function.

The convenience and comfort of cruise control is within reach for just about any car owner: visit your local mobile electronics shop learn more about aftermarket upgrades for your vehicle!

Think about it how many times does it happen that when you are driving on the highway there is that one person that zooms past you going extremely fast. You think to yourself, “Why is he not worried about getting a ticket.” The reason that he is comfortable with going that fast is usually because he has a radar/laser detector.

Another simple example is whenever you look into a nice sports car there is usually a radar/laser detector. Its a simple fact and most of these sports cars are being sold with detectors in them already! You may be asking why but the simple reason is that they are going to speed and they know it. So in order to avoid an unwanted ticket they have these detectors that if used properly will eliminate tickets.

Now you may be thinking well someone with a sports car can afford one but I can’t. However getting a ticket will cost you multiple times more than getting a detector. This is because the ticket costs about $130 and then the insurance costs will increase on average $300 every year for three years. This is a huge sum of money to pay for something that could have comparatively cheaply and easily been done. You may be asking what about those red light cameras. Well they have GPS systems that will identify those to in fact there are so many things that are made to try to beat the ticket. In times like these where the city is looking for extra revenue there is never a better time to buy one so that you can stay ticket free.

If you are ready to put an end to the frustration, head aches, and unwanted costs from tickets take two minutes to visit Phantom Alert, your #1 source for radar detectors, GPS devices & much more. The best part is Phantom Alert is having a huge discount on all their products right now, Click Here to get the discounted prices!
