Buying a used car can be a daunting task. With so much to choose from and so much to take into consideration it can certainly leave you feeling a little out of sorts.
There are a few things you can do at the onset that will help you when it comes to buying a used cars. Put these tips to use and save yourself some time and avoid the expensive pitfalls that others have fallen into:
1. Know what you need. I know it may sound simple, but surprisingly enough there are some people that go into a dealership and really have no idea what they need or what type of vehicle they want. I have people that come in and ask me what’s your cheapest vehicle? I ask them “do you need a specific type of vehicle, ie will a car work or do you need something a little bigger?” “I don’t know I just want your cheapest.”
That is NOT the way to buy a car. Take some time at home and make a list. Take into account your lifestyle, are you active and on the go, do you play hockey, ski, camp? If so then you will want a vehicle that will handle all the gear. How many people are in your family? Do you need something bigger like a SUV as opposed to a car? Do you need something with a 4×4 or AWD capacity because you live up North. These are all things that can be a deciding factor for you. Not only that they will certainly help you in narrowing down what type of vehicle you need to go shopping for.
2. What options. Once you have a general idea as to what you need in terms of the kind of vehicle that will fit within your lifestyle, now it’s time to look at what sort of options are important to you. Power windows, doors, mirrors, air etc, are typically the norm now. Think beyond that, is a sunroof a must have for you? Do you want a manual transmission or is automatic ok. Make a list but keep in mind that a used car isn’t like a new one where there are several on the lot in different colours and options. This is just to get your thought process going and determining what is important, what you must have and what isn’t necessarily a deal breaker for you. Continue reading ‘Used Car Buying Tips’ »
