There are enthusiasts for every type of vehicle in the world and it’s these individuals that drive the market. No matter the purpose, any vehicle will inevitably be tweaked by it’s owner, for looks, for speed, or sound. The new hybrid market will be no exception, we are already seeing a few body kits developed for hybrids like the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic. But what affect does this have on the greenness of the hybrid car, will adding a body kit affect gas mileage and efficiency?

The answer to this question can only be answered by what type of kit you are adding. The body kits available now are small, stylish, and only add subtle styling cues. As the market matures I’m sure there will be more and more outrageous styles, but for now any kit you add will not likely affect your hybrids efficiency. These body kits replace the bumpers and side skirts existing on the car, they generally are not added on top of. Therefore you are not adding weight to your hybrid car.

Body kits are the most important tools available to you to give your car a personal touch. Since there are numerous types of body kits available, don’t be in a hurry to buy one, rather spend time taking a look. Body kits are normally comprised of 4 parts: a front bumper, rear bumper, and 2 side skirts. But some of the modern day kits have up to 12 parts, but are quite costly. However if you want an appearance that is totally unique, you can’t afford to ignore these kits. They offer your car a sports car appearance, but won’t impact the performance much. They normally switch your factory parts so you might have to take it to a car body shop if you are unable to handle it yourself.

Body kits usually use either fiberglass or poly-urethane. Both of them have their own advantages and disadvantages. Fiberglass is lot cheaper than poly-urethane but is very fragile. If the car is a show car, a fiberglass kit preferable as it can retain the paint better. These kits can also deal with adverse climatic conditions much better than poly-urethane.
