RV’ing is one of the fastest growing pastimes in the United States. In 2008, many RV camping sites reported between a 25 and 30% increase in visitors over the previous year. This is due in part to a slowing economy and the rise in airfare and hotel accommodations.
Used recreational vehicle sales are hitting an all time high, as more and more people want to make an investment that will last for years to come.
If you’re in the market for just such an investment, you might be surprised where you can find a fantastic deal.
1. Banks and Other Financial Institutions: The economy seems to make things swing both ways. While some are grabbing up terrific deals, others are losing their RV’s to repossession. Contact the banks in your area and see if they have any repossessed RV’s for sale. In most cases, the storage costs alone are enough for the banks to sell dirt cheap.
2. RV Dealers: There comes a time when the dealers have to recoup some of their losses during a slow economy as well. Many of their used recreational vehicles will have to be sold at a discount to make room for the next year’s models. With the end of the year approaching, now is a good time to check out your local dealer.
3. Try a Government Auction: Many people shy away from these sales because they think there is a ton of red tape. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. It’s almost as simple as the auction that happens right in your neighborhood when it comes to bidding and buying.
You’ll need a source for finding these auctions and there are several websites that provide listings on when and where these auctions are taking place. You can find repossessed, seized, and surplus units and many have a very low starting bid. Don’t let the word “government” fool you. It’s probably one of the best ways to find a used recreational vehicle at the lowest possible price.
