A truck is primarily meant for loading, unloading, and rough long distance drives. It is categorized under heavy automobiles categories, which is why driving a truck is a lot different than driving just another automobile. Essentially a commercial vehicle, there are people who do drive a truck for the mere fascination for its grand size. It is essentially used for loading and transport of heavy stuff over a long or short stretch. However, since most trucks have an open load bed, they can also be used as passenger carriers. Across the world, the basic anatomy of a truck is the same. Some common truck parts are a chassis, a cab, an area for placing cargo or equipment, axles, suspension and road wheels, an engine, a drive train, pneumatic, hydraulic water and electrical systems.

If you want to make your trucks more efficient and faster, but cannot afford it, that’s where aftermarket truck parts play the vital role. Aftermarket parts are those parts that are made by a company other than the original manufacturer or OEM, of the automobile. You can also use aftermarket parts, if you want to do certain modifications in your truck. Another main advantage of using these parts apart from affordability is that you can install them with minimum knowledge about the automobile, instead of the original ones, which require professional installation.

Before ordering an aftermarket truck part, be certain that it matches your vehicle’s model or the manufacturing year. Also, you need to check your manufacturer’s warranty before making aftermarket changes as your truck may void its warranty, if mentioned anywhere.

If your truck sets out on long journeys, then wear and tear of various parts is likely to happen sooner than it would otherwise. If you think that your truck has been demanding more maintenance or troubling you more often, it is time to go for a replacement. Although all the parts are available from brand specific outlets, many people opt for used truck parts, as it is more affordable. Various workshops provide the customers with the best grade truck accessories. You can visit their warehouse and choose from some high performance auto parts that suit your truck the best.

All you need is to be very cautious and must ensure that you pick the best performance equipments to give your truck a long life that in turn guarantee your safety while you drive truck out on the road. You can choose from the wide variety of aftermarket truck parts that are available in the market. However, when you pick equipments to modify or reinstall in your truck, there are chances that you may end up setting your hand on poor quality parts. Always emphasize on unmatched performance, so that your truck is ready for all kinds of adverse conditions when it sets out. It is vital that you settle for nothing but the most efficient, high-grade replacement, as it will directly influence your truck’s performance in the years to come.

Buy new, used and aftermarket auto, car and truck parts from online suppliers. Auto Parts Fair, one of the leading online automotive parts supplier offers varieties of automotive parts and components including car parts, truck parts, used auto parts, used auto engines and many more at discounted price with free shipping cost.

With the economy in its current state, buyers want to get the most out of their truck. Important qualities to look for are fuel economy, towing capacity, reliability, and price. Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge, Toyota, and Nissan are currently some of the best trucks on the market today.

The Silverado is Chevrolet’s most powerful truck. The Silverado 3500 is the most powerful of the Silverado line. The 3500 is great for hauling large loads over long distances. It is offered in 2WD as well as 4WD and is available in regular, extended, or crew cab. The only flaws of this car lie in the interior. However for the Silverado 3500 you are paying for the power of the car, not its looks. You can pick up this truck for as little as $26,000.

To haul a big load, you need a big truck. The GMC Sierra 3500 is the truck to pull these loads. The 3500 offers a stiffer suspension than the 1500 and 2500. It also has more power as well as the option to have dual rear wheels. This is a great truck to have for construction workers because it gets the job done with ease. This truck is offered in regular, extended, or crew cab. It is also offered in different trims, such as the SL, SLE, or SLT. This truck comes standard with a five speed manual transmission and is offered in six speed manual or a five speed automatic.

Getting a job done is serious business, that’s why Dodge put out a line of serious trucks. The Dodge Ram 3500 is one of the most powerful trucks on the market when it comes to a full-size pickup. This truck was meant for people who need a very powerful car. It features dual rear tires and was designed with today’s work man in mind. This truck is offered in regular, quad, or mega cab. The regular comes with a 98″ bed, capable of holding whatever it is you need to tow.

Toyota is one of today’s leading car manufacturers. It is no surprise that they created one of the world’s most popular full-size pickup trucks. Toyota was actually the first imported full size pickups. The Tundra is available in regular, double, and CrewMax cab sizes. The bed is offered from 6.5 feet to 8 feet in length. With a large engine and four wheel drive this makes the Toyota Tundra one of the world’s favorites.

The Nissan Titan is a strong competitor of the other trucks listed below. Offered in many trims, this truck really stands out with its customization. With a large engine and decent gas mileage this truck easily competes with any other truck on the market.

Customers are looking to get the best vehicle for the lowest amount of money. All these vehicles do just that, without having to sacrifice and important features such as engine size or towing capacity. Any of these vehicles you should take into consideration when its time to purchase.

Pulling a trailer with your vehicle requires a lot of planning and precautions. You must make sure that the trailer you are pulling is in working condition for the road. After all, when you are on the road not only do have to look out for yourself but also for the safety of others.

When looking for a trailer for sale, remember to look for some very important details. First, a trailer puts extra weight on the vehicle, so look for a trailer that is meant for the vehicle type you will be using. After deciding what size of trailer your vehicle can haul, there are a few other things you must look for. Start by checking the ware and tear of the tires if they are not new. Then check for correct tire pressure. The hitch and safety chains should be well inspected to make sure they attach properly. The brakes also need to be looked over for good working condition. (Not all trailers come equipped with brakes. It depends on the size and capacity of the trailer.) Finally, the trailer has to be licensed and registered before it can be taken out on the road.

Now that you have chosen the trailer your vehicle will be hauling come safety issues. If your trailer requires a ball for the hitch remember that there are different sizes. After verifying the right size, make sure the hitch latches on correctly over the ball. The safety chains should form an “x” under the hitch when installed properly. Now you need to connect the electrical plug and check it to be in good working order. Turn on the brakes, turn signals and lights. If the trailer is the open type, cover or strap in all it contains to avoid anything flying out. Another important fact to remember is never over load your trailer. Not properly distributing a load can cause swaying and even detaching of the trailer when on the road. Do not forget to adjust your mirrors so you can see what is going on behind you. Extension mirrors are available if you can not see clearly. Using the correct equipment and following a safe driving distance and speed can keep you from loosing control of your vehicle. Try to maintain your speed avoiding any sudden stops or swerving. The more a vehicle weighs, the longer it takes it to stop. Keep alert to your surroundings. It doesn’t mean that if you are being safe so are others. There are those drivers that do not give a second thought to what they do out on the road putting themselves and others at risk. Look out for what you do as well as what others do also. This will avoid any preventable accidents. Pulling a trailer adds more risks to driving your vehicle.

This is why safety and taking extra precautions is extremely important. Verifying that everything on the trailer is in great operating order, you are ready to move on to the road. Remember safety starts with you.

Survey Debunks the Myth

‘The White Van Man’ is perceived as a menace on our roads, but ten years ago, the Social Issues Research Centre went a long way to debunking the myth that drivers in white vans were rude and reckless.

The SIRC gathered two hundred van drivers for the study by approaching them in the places you might expect to find men on owner driver jobs: filling stations, industrial estates, lay-bys, cafes and motorway service stations. They then set about defining White Van Man – what he does and how he drives.

The survey suggested that the White Van Man is distinct from the commuter in their driving habits and even their attitude to the journey. About three quarters of the drivers surveyed did not stray too far from home, with their owner driver jobs keeping them local and in urban environments. There was a suggestion that he often knows the local roads and streets better than some taxi drivers. This seems especially relevant for drivers who use their white vans for courier jobs.

Tool of the trade

According to the survey, fleet vans and those used for courier jobs account for about 22% of all vans on the road. For the rest, the van is a ‘tool of the trade’ with the white van owner or driver’s job varying from service engineer to builder, roofer to fishmonger and so on. The study also estimated that about 26% of the White Van Men are also self-employed; this makes the van they drive crucial for their owner driver jobs.

The truth is that ‘The White Van’ man is let down by the behaviour of a minority. Drivers of emergency service vehicles readily come to the defence of the White Van Man, claiming that they demonstrate a better awareness of the roads, and are quicker to respond to the sirens and flashing lights, making room for the approaching ambulances or fire trucks.

Another finding of the SIRC survey was that none of the drivers interviewed were happy with the proliferation of the ‘How am I driving’ stickers, pointing out that the people motivated enough to dial the number and leave a message are only likely to complain. Those who have vans for their owner driver jobs have the opportunity to play with this concept; one van has been seen with a doleful variant of the usual message: “If you see this vehicle driven in an unsafe manner, please don’t call us – it increases our insurance.”

White Van Woman?

Another observation of the White Van Man survey was that drivers of light commercial vehicles are predominantly male, with female drivers in a 4% minority. You have to travel to the other side of the world to find an example of a woman who drives as part of a self-employed courier job.

Laura McCaughan recently featured in a human interest story in the New Zealand news, talking about how her varied career has brought her around to running owner driver jobs for a delivery company that she co-owns. Working in a male-dominated industry, Laura confesses that she thrives in ‘blokey’ job roles, illustrated by the fact that she’s an officer in the Territorial Army. She has picked up forklift driver qualifications and a heavy truck driving licence along the way to becoming self-employed. Her courier jobs now vary from the mundane to the amusing, delivering “everything from a car door to six rolls of toilet paper.”

All truck washes are not created equally and if you are driving over-the-road trucks or you work for a large trucking company, you probably already know this. When you are driving down the highway near a truck wash you will often hear truck drivers talking on the CB about their truck wash.

If these drivers received a lousy truck wash they will be bitching and moaning, if they got a really good truck wash, or another truck driver compliments them on their nice-looking truck, they will be talking about the truck wash for the next 200 miles. This is great for the truck wash, as it is a testimonial and rolling referral.

How do you know the difference between a good truckwash a lousy truckwash? And how do you rate a truck wash anyway? Here are some things to think about;

Hand Drying

Does the crew dry the tractor after they are done washing the truck? Are the towels that they use clean, wet, or are they streaking the chrome? Are they actually drying or they just doing a half ass effort pretending to? Also, did you get a spot free water rinse.

Tire Dressing

Does the truck wash put on Tire dressing after they are done washing the truck? Do they charge extra for this and how much do they charge? If they charge more than two dollars per tire then they are charging an excessive amount; especially considering an 18 Wheeler that has 10-tires facing out. That means tire dressing is $20 and anything more than that is out of line.

Cost

Speaking of cost, it is the number one issue in rating a truckwash. Truck washes for tractors and trailers should not be much over $60, and when they are they are pushing the limits of fair pricing. There are times when prices are a little bit more because of the seasonal issues or the crazy weather which makes the trucks really dirty. In this case they should never charge over $75-80.

Speed to Get Back on the Road

Long Lines mean you might be waiting 35 to 45 minutes for every truck that is in line to the bay in front of you. The time it takes to get back on the road and start making money is real, after all, that is what trucking is about, and it is crucial, thus, it should be considered when rating a truckwash. Even a truckwash that has a low price and does a perfect job can cost you $100 in lost revenue while you sit there for three hours and wait. Please consider all this.

It’s not just cars which are sold at knockdown prices after being repossessed. There are other types of repossession vehicles which are also sold to the public, namely repossessed trucks.

Many owners of commercial vehicles suffer from struggling to keep up repayments and as a result, their truck or van will be reposed by the loan company. Lenders attempt to try and recover losses as quickly as possible, and don’t want to add to their costs by wasting further funds on storage. The best way for them to do this is to sell the repossessed truck in the fastest time possible at the most reasonable price they can achieve. This means that repossession trucks can be bought at a price which is significantly lower than the market rate. This is unfortunately, bad news for the person whose truck has been repossessed, as it is they who will pay the difference of the outstanding loan back to the lender once the truck has been sold. But where are these vehicles sold?

The best and safest place to buy repossessed trucks is at an auction. There are many auctions throughout the country which specialize specifically in reposed trucks and other repossession commercial vehicles. One of the most well known is Mannheim Commercial Auctions. These are located nationwide and give a buyer a safe environment and the security that their purchase transaction will be legitimate.

The advantage of buying at a repossessed auction is that you can make huge savings on the list price of most vehicles, however it’s important to note that vehicles are sold as seen so no comebacks in the case that you end up buying a lemon. Below are some important tips when buying at a repossessed trucks auction.

1) Go on a trial run to a repossessed auction to see how it works and don’t do any bidding.

2) Look out for quieter auctions as there are less people to bid against.

3) Check the truck thoroughly and take a mechanic with you if possible.

4) Have a maximum bidding price in mind when you view the truck and STICK to it.

5) Don’t be drawn into a bidding war.

6) Remember there will be auction fees, find out how much these will be before you start bidding.

7) NO refunds if you buy a lemon so don’t forget this.

View our full list of where you can buy repossessed trucks.

A sobering statistic from the National Traffic Safety Institute – trucks are involved in more than 200,000 accidents annually with passenger cars. Everyone needs to take responsibility to drive safely but since trucks are bigger and more unwieldy on the roads, it’s the truck drivers’ responsibility to adopt safe habits.

Truck safety basics
Driving at high speeds, using a cellphone while driving, failure to heed traffic signals, not leaving sufficient space between your vehicle and the one up ahead are some of the major causes of traffic accidents. Because of their size and sheer weight, trucks need more leeway room to come to a complete stop, so driving at posted traffic speeds and not exceeding the speeding limit becomes an essential cornerstone of driving trucks safely. Whether on the highway or maneuvering around city streets, be careful not to tailgate, one of the major causes of rear-end collisions.

Using alcohol, prescription drugs or other medication can also dull the senses. While driving a truck these activities should be avoided at all costs. Safety also dictates that seatbelts be securely fastened whenever the vehicle is in motion. On long-distance trips, take frequent rest breaks as needed. At weights of more than 10,000 pounds or more, commercial trucks used for hauling and transport require special driving skills. Even compact pick up trucks can weigh half a ton more than a car. Driving trucks safely requires that you put your full attention to the task at hand.

Consider your trucks’ design
Their design makes trucks more subject to certain kinds of accidents, especially rollovers in pick-up trucks because the vehicle has a higher center of gravity. Trucks are also burdened with large blind spots called “No Zones” and require additional space whenever making a right or left hand turn of the vehicle. If a passenger vehicle is driving so closely that the truck operator cannot see the car in its side view mirrors, it is an accident waiting to happen.

Be aware of your trucks’ load
In addition to always maintaining safe driving habits, maintaining the safety of the truck is also extremely important. Avoid allowing your truck to be overloaded or driving a vehicle containing an unsafe load. Maintain caution on downgrades, on rural roads and on windy, unfamiliar streets and highways. Be sure to maintain the proper tire pressure in your tires. Avoid over-correcting in steering or shifting from lane to lane or passing when the conditions are not safe to do so. In rainy conditions and inclement weather, slow down despite the posted speed limit. If hauling a trailer with your truck, make sure your hitch is secure and maintain your speed within posted speed limits.

Get some practice first
One of the best ways to become a safe truck driver is to attend a professional truck driving school. This allows you to do something you simply can’t do on the open road. Get plenty of practice with no other vehicles in your way and make mistakes without serious consequences.

Once you are driving a truck on residential streets, highways or freeways, there is little margin for error and your goal throughout every trip, short or long-haul, should be to drive the truck safely.

One of the benefits of owning a truck is that you can use the bed in the back to carry goods, tools and other supplies. But what happens at high speeds? Bits and pieces tends to fly out the back. Not only that, if you have precious items like your tools in the back there is easy access for thieves. So, what is the solution?

Truck bed covers are a type of covering for your truck’s bed. They keep your load safe when you are traveling and can protect your valuables from being stolen. Another benefit is that actually make your car chew less petrol by making the bed more aerodynamic. There is a wide range of different truck bed covers that you can buy which most budgets.

At the most basic and cheapest is the tarp. Using tough plastic string and clips, it attaches to your bed. While they are cheap and keep your valuables out of sight, there is no protection if a thief decides to come and take a peek inside. Even if it is secured, they can still use a knife to cut the tarp to gain entry.

The next step up from the tarp is roller bed cover. These types of covers have a canister which sites on the end of the bed near the rear window. The cover rolls up inside this canister when it is not in use.

Fiberglass truck bed covers are hard top covers. They are hinged at one end so that you can lift them up and gain entry to the bed. While they are the most expensive, they are every popular because they secure your load extremely well and you can buy covers that match the color of your truck. You can also paint them different colors or apply pictures to them like flames or clouds.

Which one you choose will be based on three factors – ease of use, visual appeal and cost. You will want a cover that is easy to put on and take off. The look is a personal consideration as some people like the black tarps or rolls up, while others prefer to have their fiberglass cover match the color of their truck.

In conclusion, truck bed covers are used to keep your valuables secured while you travel and hidden away from thieves. There are three main types of covers – fiberglass, roller and tarps. Which one you choose will depend on your personal preferences and budget.

Trying to find autos online is really easy these days and if you’re looking for used trucks or cars then you’re in luck because there are a huge range of online stores available to buy from. However, before you make any big decisions, you’ll need to do some serious research on the web.

Buying what you want online doesn’t usually take that long but you’ll need to set aside some time in order to do some research. Getting what you want at a price you can afford isn’t always easy so it’s worth putting the time in to ensure that you’re able to get the best deals. You’ll need to be aware of everything available on today’s market so that you can compare prices and value for money.

Getting a good deal isn’t about buying the cheapest things you can find. Used trucks are usually low in price but you may need to compare prices to make sure that you’re not getting ripped off. You don’t want to buy the cheapest thing because it could mean that there’s something wrong with it and the quality isn’t good enough for your needs – it’s all about value for money.

Shopping for cars online is actually easier than most people think. Usually, you’ll find something that you’re interested in and make a note of the number to call. Once you’ve done all your research, you can then make all your phone calls and go out to test drive or at least look at the autos you like. Just remember to have a pen and paper with you while you’re doing your research online.

You’ll also need to take a pen and paper with you when you go and look at what’s available. This will ensure that you can make a note of anything you may need to research when you get home. Most of the time it’s pretty easy to find what you need online.

Overall, buying used trucks on the web is easy as long as you do your research properly. Just be sure to take your time and don’t rush into anything. Make sure you’re 100% comfortable before you part with any of your hard earned cash.

The world of used fire truck sales is not all that different from used car sales. There are many hard working, honest companies out there trying to provide quality apparatus for fire departments nationwide, but the bad business practices of a few unethical dealers can greatly damage the reputation of every dealer in the industry.

When fire departments are in the market for an updated fleet of fire trucks, the two most common choices departments have is choosing whether to buy from a broker or a dealer. Both types of apparatus sellers can provide different levels of service. This article will examine the pros and cons of both types of seller, and provide a quick list of things to consider when choosing between working with a broker or dealer.

Both types of sellers are interested in finding a unit for their buyer. Listing services often have the appearance of having hundreds of units in their inventory. However, in most cases, listers don’t actually “have” a single truck in inventory. As opposed to dealers, listing providers list the apparatus other fire truck dealers own and charge a commission to the dealer for providing access to a sale. While brokers are interested in selling units, they don’t care which unit you buy.

Another option to working with a listing service is shop for your used fire truck directly from a dealer.

Dealers buy their units directly from fire departments, cutting out the middleman and avoiding an increase in costs. Most used fire truck dealers try to find late model vehicles in their best condition and focus less on having the most units. Instead, they are more focused on having the best units for the right customers.

When you work with a dealer, ask them what they go over when they do a full service inspection of your vehicle. Do they change the filters and fluids? Check lighting systems and warning devices? Verify pump, aerial certification, and other vehicle safety systems? Even simple checks like brakes, tires, steering and more?

While listing services do appear to have the most variety in their inventory, all listing services do is take your information, pass it along to a dealer, and then collect a check for passing along your information. In order to save costs for yourself – take out the middleman cost and work with a dealer.

Below are a few questions you should answer for yourself about any type of company you are considering purchasing a used fire truck from:

1. Does your dealer personally search for and buy its entire inventory? Dealers don’t simply list a truck or engine for another department – they sell the units they own themselves.

2. Do they offer any competitive warranties on the engine and transmission of their apparatus?

3. Who takes care of the lettering on the vehicle? Do you have to take the vehicle to another location to have this complete, or can the dealer do it?

4. Who takes care of delivery of the unit? Is there an additional cost?

5. If the dealer takes care of unit deliver, do they insure the until you receive it?
