Fiberglass is usually quite a sturdy material. It is composed from plastic resin and artificial fiber. You can safeguard your fiberglass body kit against fractures and tears by reducing its direct contact to unwarranted stress. Its potency is based on the methods used by the manufacturers while molding it.
Usually, fiberglass is an excellent substance for a body kit. But it differs from metal, as it is easy to dent it and also wears out after some time, causing fractures. Professional body work experts can repair it. However there are numerous instructional kits available too. But you need to exercise caution if you plan to do it yourself. Fiberglass may cause few severe eye and skin inflammations. Also unlike metal, it may particulate, or disintegrates into its constituent fibers quite rapidly and may become very tough to manage, forget repair. (more…)
The real joy of owning a muscle car is in driving it. Muscle car owners who want to get the most out of their cars often drive to distant car shows or other events, but without an overdrive transmission a long trip on the highway becomes tedious. If the car has a performance rear axle ratio it is even worse. I love the sound of a V8 at speed as much as any guy out there, but a steady 3600 RPM for three hours solid with loud exhaust gets tiring. Most of us have become accustomed to being able to hold a conversation and/or hear the radio on long drives, and we would like to be able to pass by at least a couple of gas stations without stopping to fill up! An overdrive transmission solves those problems, and provides many other benefits as well.
The Tremec TKO is an overdrive manual five speed that is ideal for retrofitting into the classic muscle cars of the sixties and seventies. With your choice of a 0.82:1, 0.68:1, or 0.64:1 overdrive ratio depending on the model, you can really bring those revs down to a manageable number. A lower engine RPM on the highway provides several advantages. (more…)
Body kits are the most important tools available to you to give your car a personal touch. Since there are numerous types of body kits available, don’t be in a hurry to buy one, rather spend time taking a look. Body kits are normally comprised of 4 parts: a front bumper, rear bumper, and 2 side skirts. But some of the modern day kits have up to 12 parts, but are quite costly. However if you want an appearance that is totally unique, you can’t afford to ignore these kits. They offer your car a sports car appearance, but won’t impact the performance much. They normally switch your factory parts so you might have to take it to a car body shop if you are unable to handle it yourself.
Body kits usually use either fiberglass or poly-urethane. Both of them have their own advantages and disadvantages. Fiberglass is lot cheaper than poly-urethane but is very fragile. If the car is a show car, a fiberglass kit preferable as it can retain the paint better. These kits can also deal with adverse climatic conditions much better than poly-urethane. On the other hand, poly-urethane is highly flexible, making it suitable for regular drivers as it can deal with accident far better. (more…)

So you have decided the advantages that the TKO five speed provides are worth the expense and effort. Now, the question is which one is the best match for your car? Do you want the extra deep first gear in the TKO-500, or would the closer gear spacing of the TKO-600 be a better match for your combination? Should you opt for the 0.82 overdrive ratio in the TKO-600 instead of the 0.64? If you have a Ford, which input shaft do you need?
The first determining factor when choosing a TKO is going to be your engine’s power output. Keep in mind that transmissions are rated for torque, not horsepower. The peak horsepower number doesn’t really matter much, it is torque that breaks things! The TKO-500 is rated for 500 lb.-ft. of torque, and the TKO-600 is rated at 600 lb.-ft. Even though both TKOs will stand up to considerably more torque than they are rated for, you still need to keep the torque capacity rating in mind. (more…)

The automotive vee-eight as we know it had its birth with our friend Henry Ford with the arrival of the ‘L-Head’ flat head vee eight of 1932. We must remember that he was not responsible for inventing the 8 cylinder engine in the V format as we know and love. But he was responsible for ensuring that it was available to the masses, ie the likes of you and me! It was pretty basic and simple, no complicated overhead valves or the like, hence the term ‘flathead’. (more…)
